'Jeopardy!' ace James Holzhauer scores one for Chicago Bears when he boos Green Bay answer

On the second night of “Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time,” James Holzhauer showed he not only knows the French Revolution and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart but how to get in a quick Green Bay Packers jab on national TV.

Holzhauer, who is duking it out with Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter for the title of greatest “Jeopardy” player of all time in a tournament of champions, buzzed in Wednesday night to answer this $400 clue under the “‘G’eography” category: “Lambeau knows this 118-mile inlet that receives the waters of the Fox River.”

Easy-peasy for Holzhauer, who went on a 32-game winning streak last year. “What is Green Bay?” he answered. 

Then without missing a beat, the native of Naperville, Illinois, punctuated his answer with a boo and a thumbs down. It got some laughs on set and a reaction on social media, too, especially from Packers fans. 

A few on Twitter wondered if Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a huge “Jeopardy!” fan who won "Celebrity Jeopardy!" in 2015, caught that not-so-subtle dig from a Bears fan. 

Score another one for the fun of the Packers-Bears rivalry. Would you expect anything less from a professional sports gambler who graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and incorporated the “C” of the Bears logo in his first name when he wrote it on his "Jeopardy!" podium during his 2019 run, tweaking it slightly so that it worked as the “e” in “James.” 

The tournament, taped in December, continues tonight on ABC. The first player to win three matches receives $1 million and the bragging rights of greatest of all time. Holzhauer won Wednesday night’s match, but if you've sworn off cheering for the enemy based on football allegiances, don't forget that Jennings, who won the first one, lives in Seattle.
